  • The probiotic supplements containing some Bifidobacterium species can be used as an adjunctive treatment in patients with GAD.
  • Concomitant consumption of probiotic supplements containing a mixture of some Bifidobacterium and Lactobacillus species along with selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor drugs (SSRIs) can decrease anxiety in adults with major depressive disorder (MDD).

  • The hepatocellular carcinoma risk ranged between 0.94– and 49.86 cases/100,000 individuals/y with the values for children of being 2– to 3 times higher than the World Health Organization acceptable level of one cancer case/y/100,000 individuals
  • Regular monitoring and assessment of aflatoxins in food levels can decrease the risk of exposure and hence liver cancer cases

  • Pomegranate included the strongest inhibition toward S. mutans followed by black tea, aloe vera and orange, respectively.
  • These herbal medicines, pomegranate, black tea, aloe vera and orange, can be considered as sufficient treatments in addition to conventional dental treatments, especially in the management of dental caries, gingivitis and periodontitis.

  • Feeding of high carbohydrate diets and high fat diets differentially increased serum glucose, cholesterol, phospholipids and inorganic phosphate; however, serum creatinine was not affected by the two diets. 
  • High carbohydrate diets increased brush border membrane enzymes, alkaline phosphatase and sucrose, but decreased γ-glutamyl transferase activity. High fat diets increased alkaline phosphatase and γ-glutamyl transferase but decreased sucrase activity.
  • High carbohydrate diets induced energy generation majorly by anaerobic glycolysis in the intestine but in the liver by oxidative metabolism as indicated by the enzymes involved.
  • High fat diets decreased all the enzymes involved in glucose metabolism and its production in the intestine and liver.
  • High carbohydrate diets and high fat diets caused oxidative stress in the intestine and liver as evident by increased lipid peroxidation and suppressed activities of superoxide dismutase and catalase.
